The campfire ban will NOT be lifted before festival time. The wildfire danger rating in our area is low but all the local firefighters are away fighting fires elsewhere in the province. So, if a fire did get away from someone, the people who are trained to deal with it would not be here. However, there are still some things you can use for cooking and providing heat. The fire ban bulletin states:

“This prohibition does not apply to CSA-rated or ULC-rated cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or to a portable campfire apparatus that uses briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel, so long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres.”

Alternatives to Campfires

Although the campfire ban is very unlikely to be lifted before festival time, there are still some things you can use for cooking and providing heat. The fire ban bulletin states:

This prohibition does not apply to CSA-rated or ULC-rated cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or to a portable campfire apparatus that uses briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel, so long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres.

Campfire Ban

It now appears very unlikely that the prohibition on open burning will be lifted before festival time. Mark has looked into getting an exemption for the festival but the answer was “No”. So, for the first time in our history, we are advising everyone to be prepared for a festival without campfires.
